Sydney Catholic Schools, Randwick
Education standards, methods and contemporary learning spaces continue to evolve and so Sydney Catholic Schools engaged us to help the kindergarten facility at Randwick get ahead of the (design) curve. This was both an aesthetic and functional challenge as we would be setting established brand colours, cues and hues against a layout that embraced organic elements, wayfinding and practical solutions to access, and traffic flow.
Featuring large, transparent, sliding doors provided an environmental framework of (literally) open learning, allowing imagery and functional design themes to flow from one room to the next. The “learning tree” theme offered a place where students could read, recline and learn in non-traditional settings. Suspended, modular ceiling lights reinforced the contemporary look and feel as they illuminated the colour-coded wayfinding paths guiding parents and students to and from assigned access points and classrooms.
Understanding that “ease of transition” affects both students and parents as the reality of kindergarten sets in, was the impetus behind creating set, transparent drop-off points to minimise the feeling of abrupt separation.
Our experience in functional interior design continues to help clients and their clients (students) navigate through their life’s work and we’re pleased that in some cases, we are there, helping design the start of their journey.
